I have seen many movies about 'Nam, but this has to be the best. Sentimental, I know, but this adds to the whole feel of the film. I must admit I was in tears during most of the second half because of this DVD film We Were Soldiers tells it like it is and makes you realize the futility of war (however it is considered necessary at the time). The courage of men under fire and the feeling of brotherhood (or sisterhood link to the side of the wives and family) is the bang. After having served my country, I believe this is the most accurate description I've seen about how men and women cope with stress and the shear excitement of the theater of war. The script, however weak and corny at times, pulling him along, and both feel sympathy and anger at the same time, not necessarily to both sides.
While still a solid We Were Soldiers movie of war, was not up to my expectations, although it is a "keeper" in my collection. With the cast and hype of this film: We Were Soldiers at the time of his release, other than me something more, something like Saving Private Ryan ..... but could not be. While the latter is known for its graphic violence, this DVD movie We Were Soldiers is that I thought the violence was exaggerated, no SPR. The action here does not start for 40 minutes, but when it does so strong, it is strong and continued through most of the next 95 minutes. Shorter periods of the scenes of violence that have made this much better, perhaps even an "excellent" film. "We were soldiers" had things I see that now are rare in action movies: 1 - a pro-military relationship with a We Were Soldiers movie of Vietnam War battle, 2 - fairly tame language. This is not pro-war in Vietnam, Hollywood would never do that, but at least the soldiers shown in a solid, courageous light. It is also good to see that references to God and prayer. Mel Gibson is the character of a decent Catholic. Greg Kinnear is solid, too, as the helicopter pilot and Madeline Stowe was a memorable scene in the delivery of messages from war to the death of their spouses. Things that are played. But, mostly, it is an action DVD movie We Were Soldiers and the battle scenes are horrible, at times, especially near the end of the film.
I should never be surprised that people who do not recognize the principle, much less of Honor, Duty, or if the country is in itself seen as a virtue vice. As one who served in that war, I found the DivX Movie We Were Soldiers in fact to the point of pain. Those who call this DVD movie We Were Soldiers racist, lack of vocabulary. or understanding of racism. I do not know what is sad. This film: We Were Soldiers tells a story of a soldier very well. Soldiers March to another drummer, how tragic that so many today, still refuse to honor those who protect them. The millions in Indo-China, murdered at the hands of the communists that our cry of "racism" was so wrong place at the highest levels of civil leave. His blood is not in my hands or the hands of my colleagues. It's in the hands of those who are so blind that they refuse to see. A valid case could be that there are errors in history, certainly not the rest of the story, or the next part of the U.S. battle where 40% were victims. What it does say that he said very well. The men were volunteers, and its nobility is shown in this film. I recommend it, especially for anyone who wants to understand those who served at that time.
Forget Rambo. Missing in Action forget. Forget Apocalypse Now. We see soldiers were held. This is one of the best movies of Vietnam. The only other competitor for that distinction is Hamburger Hill - one that deals with a historic compromise. We were the subject of soldiers is the best summary of real life, unit commander in an interview (included in the special features on the DVD). He hates to fund the war, but love the brave men who put their lives on the line for their country. That includes even those from the opposing side, but fought valiantly. And being in the movie, too. Many horrors of war - the bloodshed, the suffering of the injured, family separation and the effects on the domestic front is portrayed with candor and realism. Nothing is glorified or sugar-coated. Finally (WARNING: Spoiler!) The final part provides ominous foreshadowing of what lies ahead for Americans in Southeast Asia. Our leaders in Washington display a naive optimism, which, as we now know, was tragically misplaced. If only he had known!
After seeing "We were Soldiers" on DVD, see the "How Well" and reading some of the comments on this site, I wonder if we all saw the same film. Personally, I thought it was a very good We Were Soldiers film in motion. It is not perfect, of course (no We Were Soldiers movie is perfect), but good nonetheless. I do "get it." Some of us do not. I also wonder if not everyone realizes that this DVD movie We Were Soldiers is based on a book about a real battle in a real war, with characters based on real people who died. Of course, it has been fictionalized and dramatized, but it is not to trivialize the death of these young people, even to refer to its celluloid representations as "blocks"? What we see may be just a film, but a large number of U.S. soldiers killed by what some might say, was not a good reason. Nothing will change that. This film, as I see it, is a tribute to them and those who survived. If Randy Hal Moore Wallace said that I have the right, which is good enough for me.
